This book was a sweet Middle Grade book about life and death and all of the issues in between. Odette is taken out of her happy place when her parents decide to sell everything that makes their life comfortable to buy a motor home. They then decide to travel cross country to visit Odette's dying grandmother. It's a lovely book about a special family. Nothing seems to work for Odette as she learns how to deal with a puppy that's not the one she wants, sharing one cell phone and an autistic annoying brother.
Reading this now...I hate this cover and I thought that would make me hate the book...I know this is petty but sometimes some arcs have awful covers that make me want to not read the book...are covers that important? Yes...I think they are! I even hate when a Kindle book has an awful cover. Rain...we agree with this one...right?
But...this kind of dystopian fantasy is really good...it's "I can't put it down" good. It reminds me of The Night Circus...which I loved!
Some new books from yesterday...Amazon and NetGalley...you rock! I can't wait to dive into the beachy one and Sweetbitter? Here is Goodread's blurb...
A lush, raw, thrilling novel of the senses about a year in the life of a uniquely beguiling young woman, set in the wild, alluring world of a famous downtown New York restaurant...
This was Thursday's post which I forgot to post so I will pop in again later today!
Hugs,
Patty
Far From Fair sounds really good. I agree with you on covers - they set the tone for the book.
ReplyDeleteIt was sweet...and probably important.
DeleteOh, yes, covers can make or break a reading experience! I think that I prefer reading e-books to seeing ugly covers while reading.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what's worse...a cover that is ugly because it's the "stand-in" cover on an ARC...or one that is ugly on purpose. The cover on Sing Down the Stars is such a hot mess! LOL
I know! I totasly agree!
DeleteI don't read much (well, any) middle grade fiction, but Far From Fair sounds wonderful. The cover of the second book IS really ugly... enough to prevent me from even picking it up. Your new books look great. I'm feeling the urge to visit NetGalley again!
ReplyDeleteI love middle grade books and that cover is horrid...I think they have changed it!
DeleteYou sold me on the middle grade book. Yeah, the cover is okay. Sometimes I too don't like the cover of a book which can keep me from reading it.
ReplyDeleteThe good thing is that this book is really good! The ugly cover one...the middle grade one is sweet...just really sweet and real! I love influencing you!
DeleteI judge books by covers- even though I know I shouldn't! I have read lots of books with covers I don't like, but it is hard not to judge. :)

I know what you mean!
DeleteI love the cover of the first book. And seeing a Thayer book makes me so happy that summer is only a few months away :)
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean!
