Of course I am hungry for everything that I don't have and can't get today...frites from Five Guys, sushi, pizza...a homemade meatball one from Martha...and weirdly enough...creamed spinach...this one is from Food 52 and is made with Greek Yogurt.
I am afraid to unplug anything...and I am drinking way too much coffee...
The deck looks like this...
And it just continues to snow...and snow...and snow...
I am looking at beach houses...because I need a distraction! This one is in Delaware.
I am charging up everything I own...prepping for whatever snow, ice or wind gusts that will come my way...books are downloaded...headlamps in drawers...I am as ready as I can be...this headlamp was my survival last week...I can not go through this again...I pray that the power stays on...tonight is when the snow starts falling! And falling...and falling...and falling.
New yummy books...I truly love NetGalley!
If I don't have power I am going to have my very own READATHON...lol...because I won't have anything else to do!
* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 6 TO 10 INCHES...ALONG WITH AROUND A TRACE OF ICE.
* TIMING...PRECIPITATION SHOULD BEGIN AS MOSTLY SNOW WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW IS FORECAST TO CHANGE OVER TO A SNOW...SLEET...AND FREEZING RAIN MIX DURING THE DAY THURSDAY...BEFORE CHANGING TO SNOW AND TAPERING OFF THURSDAY NIGHT.
* IMPACTS...TRAVEL COULD BE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACTED ACROSS THE REGION ESPECIALLY ON THURSDAY. IN ADDITION TO TRAVEL IMPACTS...WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE ON THURSDAY WHICH COULD LEAD TO POWER OUTAGES IF SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS OCCUR BY THE TIME WINDS INCREASE.
A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
Reading this...while trying to work around the storm...kitties make great book rests!
It's hard to figure out what to do with sadness...when I was little...there were really strict ways to mourn and be sad...we had church rules and parental rules. No TV when someone died...but now TV is a distraction...notes from friends on FB and in emails...comforting and instant. Den's family continues to post photos of his dad that we have never even seen. That is comforting to Den. We live on the East Coast...between Den's career and mine...and two sets of aging parents...and family all over the country and now world since my brother is in Saudi Arabia...we always felt we never saw anyone enough. And no matter what we do...it really is never enough...
So...today I am sneezing and stuffy...can being cold for so long have given me a cold? Achoo! Sniffle...sniffle! Yikes! My mom would run for the Vicks! I am doing that, too! I love me some Vicks Vapo Rub! It's my addiction!
Yes we do! Friends of mine barely a few miles away still do not have power! That would be 5 days without electricity! Yikes! Everyone I know...us included...is tossing pretty much all of the stuff in our refrigerators and complaining about restocking. Some of the stores near us are out of certain things...it's amazing!
I have a pot of water boiling on the stove for linguini and a pot of sauce simmering...it's not homemade...it's Rao's...but I added local exotic mushrooms and organic ground turkey. The store was out of our usual bison!
We spent a quiet day at home and now we are watching a blizzard of snow! Here we go again!
Reading this...kind of girly...kind of good...a little bit of magic!
We have not had a good week...it's been sad and depressing...Den's dad...who has been so strong into his 90's...began to fail rapidly during the last few weeks...he was the last parent we had left...all of our Colorado trips during the last few years have been to see him. When he was well...we would always take him out for martinis and wine and great steak dinners. He loved to sip a really good Scotch. He loved food. Dinners with him would last forever because he loved to eat slowly. He loved oysters. He loved a bargain. We once took him for a birthday dinner at an amazing steak house in Denver...Del Frisco's. We sat and talked for hours...it was wonderful and memorable. He would play with our cats endlessly and even make toys for them. Once when we were visiting him...with kitties...we came in to find him herding the cats in his back yard...our indoor kitties...not Lucy and Roxie...who had never been outside in their entire lives! Needless to say...they loved Grandpa! Soon after that he became lost while driving, forgetful, and confused. He has been stable for a long time but sort of not stable for awhile. He was beginning to not know Den, he was quiet, began losing weight, didn't want to get out of bed.
Ultimately...while we were at our hotel last Thursday...he died peacefully...so sad...
So...we needed a little lift last night so we took ourselves out to dinner. This martini...a really good one...was for grandpa!
Den's dad...one of those good guys! He made it to 94!
