Yesterday I had lunch with Mary and Sue...they were formerly the "library ladies" at my school when I taught. Mary was the librarian and Sue was the library aide. Now none of us teach any more and we try to have lunch every few months. Mary paints and pretty much travels and takes classes all over the world. Sue has a really full life, too...she volunteers and travels with her husband and does stuff with Mary.
Here comes the wuss part...I kept waiting for Mary to call and cancel lunch because of all the snow...but she never did...so I called her and asked if we were still on...she said...why not...
I am freaking out about driving in the snow...she is older than I am...and she wants to come get me!
I refuse but I am on Sue's way and she picks me up...Sue's birthday was yesterday...she won't mind if I tell you this but she just turned 70! She is driving us in this blizzard as though it was nothing!
I am the youngest and the most afraid! Plus I have Den calling me all morning telling me how bad the roads are!
I have to get over my wussiness! But I think everyone is enabling me...lol...
So...I had a fun lunch with my "girls"...we talked Downton Abbey to our hearts' content...
So much fun! Mary made homemade soup and we had wine and cheeses and fruit and breads...and again...so much fun we might all have been 18 again!
I'm a wuss about driving in the snow too, but I've only done it about 3 or 4 times in my life.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you ever get good at it!
DeleteWhat a fun lunch that must have been! Three of my favorite GW Faculty Alumni and homemade soup AND wine!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun lunch that must have been! 3 of my favorite GW Faculty Alumni, homemade AND wine.... I would have braved a major blizzard for that! As it was we just had a wet, damp, dreary day down here at the beach.
ReplyDeleteNext time!
DeleteI hate driving in the snow! Thankfully I can walk to work if I have to. It sounds like it was a wonderful lunch though.
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful!
DeleteI am a wuss about driving period. I get to and from work okay but if I have to drive on unfamiliar roads, I get antsy. For this reason, I hate to drive anywhere for work, even if the conference is just 50 miles away. Snow? Don't think I could handle it and didn't when it snowed three inches here one January. I called in sick.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing we have in common!
DeleteI don't drive in snow. I just have too many health issues, and don't have the ability I once had. I wish I did, but I don't so I just stay in or ride with someone who can do it. See? You aren't alone.
ReplyDeleteThen there is Bill who drives an 18 wheeler, semi/big rig/tractor-trailer through blizzards, hurricanes, mountains, deserts...any time 24/7, year around!
Your lunch sounds like so much fun! I love that you all get together every few months. :)
ReplyDeleteI like to drive in the snow a little less every year. We get quite a bit of snow here- but I usually prefer to stay home and curl up with a good book, a favorite show, or my husband.

I don't like driving in inclement weather, either. We don't have snow, but it gets really foggy during the winters here. So dense and low to the ground that you can't see anything at all.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the wussiness...is that even a word? lol
The lunch sounded good, though.
I'm the same way. Especially with Baby Whimsy.
ReplyDeleteAh...that's nice. I'm glad you had a good time. I feel the same way about driving in a heavy rain storm or at night. Definitely not a fan...
