It's The Wait That Is Excrutiating...
Seriously...yesterday was very stressful...we are not that great with machinery...and this generator thing is freaky scary. It needs to be grounded...and the manual said it shouldn't get wet? Everyone we bought it from knew it was for a hurricane!!! We didn't have a funnel to put stuff into it...my poor Den...he worried and worked for hours to get everything ready. Cables and plugs and what to plug in...we needed help with everything...both of my brothers are engineers...they guided us through this mess of stuff...they are like my dad...they know how to do things that we do not.
So today we sit and wait...everything is closed...schools...companies...offices...and there is an impending feeling of gloom and doom. Watching tv is making us stress even more...and its because we feel as though we have been living this storm since Thursday.
I have books to read and books have come in but somehow I am not even thinking about that. I have to read something that will take my mind off of everything going on outside. We even have our bathtubs filled with water...if we lose power we don't have water either...whoopsie...I almost forgot about that part...another down side to lovely Hurricane Sandy.
Thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers...I appreciate them so much!
Again...outside it looks so normal...geese in the pond, no wind, a lovely light rain...that's what makes this whole thing so unbelievable.

The waiting is awful because you never know if it's been over-hyped or not. When we lived in Charlotte, a major ice storm came through and we were without power and water for days. Believe me, being without water is much worse than being without power.
ReplyDeleteI know...that is part of the problem...they hype it so much...I am praying for hype...our basement is already leaking...as is all of our neighbors...
DeleteWelcome to my 'world' Patty! This was our scene in S. Florida last week! All schools, and a lot of business closed last Friday, and the storm finally left us by Saturday, but the ocean is still pounding and our beach washed away and tons of erosion! Be safe...hopefully you will escape the worst as we did as well:)
ReplyDeleteI know Elizabeth...you have done this a lot...I just don't like it...
DeleteGood luck! Hope your adventure has a happy ending!
ReplyDeleteThank you...I love happy endings...
DeleteWanna hear something insane? I'm from Florida (now living in Kentucky) and I miss hurricanes. Crazy right? I guess 'cause I grew up with all that insanity. The prepping and waiting. You'll be fine. Just keep reading. That's how I always waited for storms.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fun if it weren't so close...I am going to just read and nap hopefully...thanks...
DeleteThe generator does sound very tricky. I had no idea they couldn't get wet! We are busy preparing here, too. It is getting windy out now- but it isn't supposed to fully hit until later today. Schools are closed today and tomorrow. I am trying to get some computer time in until the storm really starts- and then I will read. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI am doing the same thing...charging my ipad all day and ;my kindle and I have a huge stack of real books, too...and those lights you wear on your head...take care!
DeleteI hope you don't get too badly affected by Sandy. We are watching from the other side of the world and worrying for you all. Take care.
ReplyDeleteCarole...thank you so much...we appreciate it!
DeleteOh, it's so sad...
ReplyDeleteI do hope you're safe and well.
Please keep posting - just to be sure you're fine.
I feel you on this. The wait is worse than the event! Does Lucy have that coat? If she doesn't I look forward to your next purchase...shopping...yup...that will help get your mind on something besides storms and electronics...a generator that can't get wet...now that's scary!
ReplyDeleteBy now it's much later where you are...I hope you are still safe...I love Lucy's cute raincoat!
ReplyDeleteKeep in touch when you can.
