I am suffering from character melt down!!! I need to go to a YA fictional character support group. Am I reading about far too many YA characters with way too many issues? Henry in Dust City has abandonment issues and Kyle in You has issues with his self-esteem. Katniss had issues with her mother. Peeta had issues with his mother. Breena and Kian and Logan are in a triangular relationship and Vera is drinking vodka as she delivers pizza. Zack was manipulative and egomaniacal!!! And all of this is just within books I have read in the last five days!!!
When I actually sit down to write a review...I can't remember the names of the characters I am writing about!!! I called Henry Hank and I thought Zack was Jake and now I am totally freaking out about remembering character names. Please tell me this is even slightly normal. I absolutely hate going back into my book to find the names of characters I have just read about. But...from now on...that is what I am going to have to do. OMG...I need to start writing down the names or at least write the review before I start a new book!!!

p.s. Sweet little Lucy is so adorable!
Oh, I know! Sometimes in one book, there are so many characters, I have to write down the names/connections on a piece of paper as I read to remember who is who, so don't feel ashamed about it...lol...Is that Lucy in the pic above? Gosh, if so, she looks so adorable!
ReplyDeleteWhen did teen life become so complicated? As a teen, I worried about boys, looks and being popular. Now they have a whole host of things to worry over. Reading YA is like watching a soap opera sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI know...YA is like a fantasy soap opera...and that is not Lucy in the photo, June...I didn't have Lucy photo where she looked worried...she is far too content...
ReplyDeleteI've found that, since I started blogging and reviewing, there are often a couple of books between the time I finish one and the time I post the review for the next. So, I do two things .. take little notes on a folded sheet of paper that I use as a bookmark while reading, then draft a skeleton review so that it only needs to be fleshed out when I write the review. It helps a lot. And it may help to know that you are not the only one that encounters this! :)
