I Am Totally Lost In This Book...

According to my trusty Kindle I am about 48% into A Discovery Of Witches.  This book is so delicious that there are times when I have to force myself to close it down and take a break from it.  It is a slow thoughtful reading experience.  There is so much going on with so much history written in such a magnificent way that I am already sad that I will soon finish it.

Diana, the witch who really doesn't want to be a witch, has been taken by Matthew to his home in France.  He is determined to keep her safe from other witches and other evil creatures who are just waiting for her to open the book.  This is the magical powerful book that will set the world upsidedown.  Diana has called it once, accidentally, and now everyone is waiting for her to call it to her again.

Smells play such an integral role in this book.  Matthew seems to smell of cinnamon and cloves which only make him more and more attractive to Diana.
I think Diana has a flowery vanilla smell.  The smells within this book are described so vividly that I find myself drinking cup after cup of a fragrant herbal tea...laced with cream and sugar...just like Diana.  Oh, and they drink wine...wine that has many different tastes and smells.  Matthew loves fine wine.

To be continued...but first...was there ever a book that was so yummy you just did not want it to end?

Paper Pictures...I Love Them!!!

I found these on Etsy!!!  They are made by an artist name Matthew.  He has an Etsy shop called PaperMatthew.

His work is so beautiful.  This cat looks exactly like Lucy Grace, doesn't it?
He has other designs that are not cats.

I find it fascinating that he can build these out of paper,  don't you?

A Book Review Of A Medical Thriller...

Synopsis from the book jacket…

Dr. Jack Forrester, director of the New Canterbury University Hospital Emergency Department is about to win an ongoing battle to modernize the ED when he is stymied by power hungry Dean Bryson Wintner. Then someone tries to murder Jack’s mentor and the former dean…setting it up to make it look like a suicide.

Bit by bit, Jack uncovers facts that suggest several other recent tragic accidents may not have been accidental at all. The deeper Jack digs, the closer danger creeps and the phrase “life or death” begins to take on a new and very personal meaning.

My thoughts…

I have to admit that I am not a big fan of medical thrillers. They can be too complex and a bit too dry for me. I now must say that this medical thriller was a bit different. I did find myself caught up in the lives of all of the characters. Doctors and nurses and technicians were all over this book. Patients, a reporter, students…there was a lot to keep track of. And of course there was a love story with Jack and Zellie, the reporter/writer.

Jack is frustrated because he wants this hospital to focus and expand its ER while another doctor wants to steer the hospital in a totally different direction.

There is mystery and suspense and again tons of medical situations. I would tend to think that readers who love a scientific premise would love this book. It is sort of fast paced…and it does make you rethink what you think is happening and of course there is a sort of shocking ending.

It was thought provoking and well written…not a book that I adored but one that I appreciated.

I recieved this book from Pump Up Your Book.

This Is One Of Those Amazing Books...

I am reading A Discovery Of Witches by Deborah Harkness.

I love this book.  I totally cannot tear myself away from it. It is so beautifully written.  This first time author has this amazing quality that allows the reader to sort of become so involved with what is going on.  Each page is a surprise, a thrill, a delight!!!

I have a difficult time tearing myself away from this book.  I want to savor it.  It is so absorbing.  I want to drink tea with a 500 year old scholarly vampire.  I think I might even want to play chess with him.  I want him to take me to breakfast and buy me rashers of bacon, toast and eggs and sit with me while I eat.

Now...doesn't that statement have you wondering what is going on in this book?
