Today We Shop...Tomorrow We Clean...

Den is out shopping...he has a specific list...recipes are printed...menus made for the week end. It's Super Bowl! We don't really care who wins and we just want to be comfy and eat. We are making these for lunch...from Skinnytaste.

And these for dinner from Anna@crunchycreamysweet...slowcooker barbecued ribs...

And we are making an organic white cake with white buttercream icing that is not as organic...

And I finally found a recipe for an oil and vinegar cabbage salad that we love!

It's a really simple one from Rachel Ray.

So...I plan to stick with fantasy all weekend...

Unless I grab this one...

from Amazon...

and just the kind of book that I love!

"In the vein of Richard Russo and Tom Perrotta, a gripping, suspenseful, and gorgeous debut novel--told hour-by-hour over the course of a single day--in which a husband and wife try to outrun long-buried secrets, sending their lives spiraling into chaos."

See you Monday!

Patty

Sheer Random Selfish Thoughts...

These books have caught my eye, piqued my interest, drew my gaze and I want them...but so far I don't have them! Sigh!

I am hungry for a fish sandwich!

I am hungry for this soup! From bonappetit!

I want these! From Golden Bear in Vail! But I might already own them. I need to check my stuff!

Really interesting pants! Harem! From Free People!

Our country butcher makes Bone Broth! We bought some yesterday.

Roxie ate chicken salad last night. Mine! Not the grapes, though!

Thank you for bearing with me and my selfish random thoughts!

Hugs,

Patty

An Almost Wordless Wednesday...

We seem to be in the midst of damp dull cold dreary endless days. I think that even if I wanted to go somewhere it's just too dull and gray outside to manage it. Today I sat in the parking lots of the grocery store and The Country Butcher. It's fun because Den comes out to the car or calls me from inside the store to make sure he is getting everything. The Country Butcher is a sort of gourmet grocery store and prepared food market. Den is hungry for meatloaf and baked beans...we will make those tomorrow...and he bought their amazing chicken salad and pretzel buns for dinner tonight. Their chicken salad has grapes and walnuts in it. Some days it's nice to just not cook...to have something already prepped for dinner. For dessert we are having jello with walnuts, bananas and whipped cream...I am seriously craving this concoction from my childhood.

Love this book! Love, love love! It's kind of magical but that's the point.

So...I am in our room with a cat on my lap in my chair prepping to read. A quilt is on me and Lucy is on the quilt. We are both sort of watching Diners, Drive Ins and Dives...I think Lucy loves watching French Fries cook.

We are waiting for Den to finish working in his study so we can watch Episode 3 of The Fall...it's on Netflix and really good! Really really good! Plus we bought a piece of cheese cake which I need to eat right now!

Hugs,

Patty

So...

Rarely do I buy books but...I bought this one...

I also bought this one...

I can send them to my sister Paula when I am done. Of course Caraval captured my attention right away and I dropped what I was going to read to get caught up in this magical world! I am so fickle. Sigh! My plan is to read Roseblood as soon as I am done with Caraval thus sustaining a fantasy world for as long as possible. Roseblood is supposed to be based on Phantom Of The Opera...I just couldn't resist it.

Super Bowl!

This dip is supposed to be the most popular dip on Pinterest...according to thekitchen...

This one is from thekitchen, too...it's a Taco Dip but it has a can of cheese soup in it. I don't like using anything processed so I have to figure out what I can use instead and I would rather use real organic tortilla chips...so this dip is a "work in progress"...

We had a snow squall yesterday for almost 20 minutes...literally we could not see our neighbor's house! It was beautiful yet freaky because it seemed to come out of nowhere and in the middle of the day. On days like this I feel as though I am the Princess In The Tower...flu warnings are out again so I am stuck at home again but I am pretty much always stuck at home...

Today it's just cold...really really cold...the girls are with me while I write this...Den is in his study and a Morvent Man is checking the furnace and the day is incredibly dreary. It's even suppposed to rain today!

One kitty...close to me...

Another kitty in her heated bed...

In the winter Roxie and Lucy literally take over our room. See the above photo...in the summer they love the sunroom. I am so fussy about the way everything looks yet these two can have toys and scratchers and trees all over our room and we just smile. It's a really big bedroom so that helps but still...they claim our space. Roxie even has a scratcher in our closet...she loves sitting in there!
Sigh!
Off to watch the Bachelor...I have no excuses...and read...
Hugs,
Patty

Weekend Notes...

I can't begin to tell you how good this book is...it has tons of deliciously devilishly great bits in it. A "tiger mom" and not one you love to hate, either, but one who is so mean and awful and cruel that you just can't even believe such a meanie mom is even possible! Paula Daly knows how to write! The characters are interesting, flawed, and sometimes just a tad funny. I loved this book!

Now I am reading this...so far I love it...

Our weekend was calm and peaceful. Den made a Sheetpan Supper of Grainy Mustardy Roasted Chicken and Tiny Baby Potatoes. He was so nervous but it was delicious.

It's not that I can't cook but it's as though for a while I have sort of lost my interest in cooking. We work through the cooking together. Before all of this happened to us I cooked everything for us...I cooked and Den cleaned the kitchen. I just don't want to be in the kitchen now and Den is amazing about it. It's weird for me but we know it's temporary. For this round of treatment I am craving peanut butter...on 12 grain bread with apricot jam, on Whole Foods English Muffins with banana slices and on toast. It's weird, I know. And...it can only be this peanut butter...

I am off to do some tidying and some reading and some treadmill walking. Our goal this week is to finally organize the basement now that the workers are totally gone and the walls are painted.
Hugs,
Patty
