Whew!

Other than relentless wind and rain...we may avoid the worst of the hurricane.

AC is fixed and we almost needed the heat on this morning.

Even the upstairs refrigerator decided to behave better...fingers crossed.

Finished this sweet sweet book about family dysfunction...and what happens when sisters enter a magical closet. I think this book would be really good for families dealing with an alcoholic parent. The youngest sister...Silly...is on guard whenever her mother's mug is not filled with coffee. This book shows how all of these family members deal with their often absent mother...and a father in denial.

Now reading these...Books 1 & 2...compared to my beloved Deborah Harkness Trilogy but these have very mixed reviews...I am keeping an open mind and hoping I love them!
Still browsing Fall clothes...love these...from FP...Den...birthday pending! Heeheehee!
Love Eileen Fisher...and half off!
UO...
Karen Kane Trapeze Dress...
Last...Paula and Patty! Sisters! People never thought we looked alike but I kind of see it here!
Stay dry...pray that Joachim stays away from everyone and have a great weekend...lots of college football, NFL games and easy cookink for us...a quiet rainy weekend...Den...there will be waffles!
See you on Monday!

And Now This?

Last week was filled with guest prep stuff...

This week is filled with AC stuff...the repair dude has been here since 8:00...it's now almost 11:00. The girls and I are tucked away in our room because he needs to be in and out...but he can go through the basement French doors...Den is dealing with the in and out part.

And now our big refrigerator is going wacky and our downstairs spare is not cooling.

It's just one of those weeks...oh...and apparently Hurricane Joachim is going to hit everywhere around us so Den is prepping the generator...and we are buying jugs of water and tuna and batteries!

I think I want to live somewhere free from floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and muggy heat...and pestilence. And I want underground electric wires. I want Den to take me and Lucy and Roxie to a safe place...a hotel that won't lose power or cable. He should stay here and watch the house!

Sigh!

Reading and loving this...I am developing a fondness for Middle Grade books...

From Amazon...

“[A] lyrical story of love and loss... The way the sisters fight and love in equal measure, as well as their basic need for one another, rings poignantly true in this touching and heartwarming story, which contains a ‘tiny bit of magic, right here in the real world.’” (Booklist (starred review))

We did not get to have our Sheetpan Salmon Supper last night...by the time Den got in from the office it was so hot inside we did not want to turn on the oven...we just grilled it outside...still yummy!
Tonight is Pasta Thursday...Linguini and Meatballs! Yum! I need the comfort food of my people! Well...half of my peoples...heeheehee!
Plus I have a sinus headache from all of this pouring rain...
Ugg! Not Ugg's!

Hot! Hot! Hot!

Life!

It is hard to believe that it is nearly October and we are still running the AC or rather trying to.

Remember my bathroom using leaving the seat up electrician? After he left the AC stopped working. Den insists there is no connection...but...I don't believe him. Something popped when he was here working and when we tried to turn on the AC it was dead! And it's still really hot! Lucy slept sprawled out under a fan in the family room and she never does that...never!

And now we are in the path of that pesky hurricane!

Books!

Finished this...really sweet book...

Reading this...I love books with alternate voices...Carly May and Lois were abducted for two months when they were twelve. I am just getting into this but so far it is really good. It does not seem like a normal abduction but it's too early for me to tell...
Cooking! Dinner is Soy Mustard Salmon And Broccoli from my fave cookbook!
That is it for me today! I need some tea and toast!
Fondly,
Patty

What I Am Doing Right Now!

Love this book...it's filled with family angst and Italian recipes! Frankie/Francesca runs off to her finance's remote cabin after a tragedy. She just wants to be alone but...that doesn't quite happen...it's just a perfect escape book for me after our busy week.

Why is it that a repairman who is supposed to be here for just two minutes to repair an outside outlet that one of his workers messed up last year needs my clean fresh downstairs bathroom the moment I answer the door? Muddy shoes and he leaves the seat up? Something we never do...we have kitties who are curious and can fall in!!! I just need a break!
Seriously...
Den did the food shopping for us this week...it took one trip to Whole Foods and only three phone calls. I feel as though I was there. I can guide him through every aisle!
Making...Gimme Some Oven Slow Cooker Chicken Enchilada Soup...my kitchen smells so amazing! Her food is the best!
Wanting...anything and everything plaid! These are from Nasty Gal!
Den brought home sushi! Time for lunch!
Soon...

I'm Baack!

Well...the Pope is gone and so is my sister. Den and I are exhausted. The girls are out of sorts and my house needs a good cleaning! But I love seeing my sister...we remind each other of our mom! Plus now that we are older we really don't bicker any more! Heeheehee!

Of course I read nothing over the weekend. My sister Paula says that Den and I take "too much care" of house guests. That's why we are exhausted. We might hover too much...we try to make everyone comfy...we probably overdo food...but that's the way we roll!

What I am reading...a fiance dies and his fiancée is left in pieces.

Season Of Salt And Honey!

I am reading this, too. Sort of a quest book...
New this week...I think I have some of these twice!

"Though set in modern-day Los Angeles, the style of Brunkhorst's writing and the nuances of her tale hearken back to the glory days of glamorous Hollywood. Readers seeking to lose themselves in a lush, romantic mystery will be richly rewarded here."

-Booklist

From Amazon...

A “beautifully written, heartbreaking” (S. J. Watson) debut novel about a gifted boy who discovers the truth about his past, his overprotective single mother who tries desperately to shield him from it, and the father he has never met who has unexpectedly returned...

Mystery and suspense...
From the back cover...yum!
"What if you aren't the Chosen One?

The one who's supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death?

What if you're like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again.

Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week's end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.

Even if your best friend is worshiped by mountain lions.

Award-winning writer Patrick Ness's bold and irreverent novel powerfully reminds us that there are many different types of remarkable."

From Amazon...

"In her most accessible, commercial novel yet, the “supremely perceptive writer of formidable skill and intelligence (New York Times Book Review) turns her astute eye to a dramatic family reunion, where simmering tensions and secrets come to a head over three long, hot summer weeks."

Back to cleaning! Talk soon!
