Who Doesn't Love Cake? Especially Vintage Ones!

I really think I have to buy this book...I saw it on a blog called This That And The Other Thing.

Doesn't the cake plate look peely at the edges? I need to head back to the Milk House to look for one.

It's described this way on Amazon...

"A charming collection of updated recipes for both classic and forgotten cakes, from a timeless yellow birthday cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, to the Christmas standard, Bûche de Noël, written by a master baker and coauthor of Rustic Fruit Desserts".

It's the cover that sings to me...I just want one teeny slice...and you can have the rest of it.

I just want to toss on a frilly apron and make a pink cake!

  1. One of my favorite cakes (I discovered this love last winter) is an oldie. It's caramel cake. It's simple and uncomplicated but seriously marvelous. It's Southern. If you ever get a chance to try it, jump on it. Well not the cake. The opportunity. ;)

  2. Chocolate buttercream frosting... I'd forgotten this one and how much I love it. The cake on the cover looks delightful - I'll gladly take the rest, hehe :)

  7. Not sure I'd want peely on a cake plate. Peely could = lead poisoning. Just sayin'.

  9. I do love vintage cakes...but remembering from the past, they have way too much butter, and the creams aren't any lighter, either!
