New Babies...

I know...they are messy and there are far too many of them and they literally ruin our yard and gardens...and yet...when the babies make their first appearance in the yard by the pond...it is always a most precious and beautiful sight.  We swear that these babies are descendants of one single pair of geese that reigned over our pond when we first built our house here.  I named the geese Edgar and Jemima...noble names for these lovely creatures.   Their first set of babies would run to me and take bread from my hands...we filmed them, we watched over them...we worried about them.  It was our first people to geese experience.   Even in the fall when the pond fills up with geese...it always seems that there is a pair or two that seem to know us...they venture further into the yard...they try to shoe invader geese away...they appear to look as us fondly.   A forged relationship between us that I really do treasure.  Welcome to the world, babies!!!

  1. Aww. We had baby ducks in our neighborhood a few years ago and they disappeared one by one. The common consensus was that a snake had eaten them. :( We think we have a pair of geese nesting in the pond next to our house, but so far, no babies.

  3. What a beautiful sight. You are lucky to have that view on a daily basis. We have a pond near where I work and once a week we bring bread and feed the few ducks there. This past week there was a family with 5 little ones...heartwarming :}

  4. I love baby ducks, baby geese...baby animals of all kinds...we went out and bought duck chow today...so the babies will grow up big and strong...and not get eaten by the foxes and the dinosaurish snapping turtle that lives in the pond, too...I wake up now and head to the windows and count...1,2,3,4,5,6!!! 6. Diane...we treasure it...one of decks is extremely close to the pond...and there is always something fun to watch...even fish!!! Our street formerly was a dairy farm...so there are new houses and one house that used to be the barn for the dairy farmer, another house that was the farmer's house and has been totally redone...and behind us is the farmer's hands house...which has been redone and added onto...it still has its own barn...there are only two streets in our development and they don't connect and there are two ponds on our street...I ice skate on it in the winter!!!
